COVID-19 cut the summer of 2020 short—so Twisted Tea cut back.

We all lost out on gatherings, vacations, concerts and all the amazing things that make summer, summer, so we wanted to encouraged America to make the most out of the final days of Summer.

We launched #DontCutSummerShort on the last day of Summer. As people began transitioning to pants and long sleeves, we took to social media and rallied our followers and a few influencers to cut off whatever they were wearing and stay in the summer state of mind.

Results: Summer was extended for all of America.

Pants and tees across the U.S. were turned into cutoffs and people were able to have a little fun. We also gave away $500 to 20 people, and then another 20, for an even $20k for 20+20 people. Take that 2020.

The all-electric ID.4 Conquers Baja

They say EVs aren’t fun to drive.

Volkswagen raced a modified, production-based ID.4 in the NORRA 1000 Baja Rally through the Mexican desert. The results were anything but boring. Not only did the all-electric SUV withstand one of the most grueling off-road races, it was the only EV entered, and the first to ever finish the race.

Burger King wanted a social post to celebrate 420 (but not exactly celebrate it), so we got the King to fire up the next best thing, a plate of spicy chicken nuggets in honor of April 20th.

Royal Caribbean wanted to refresh their 2017 campaign with an emphasis on families and getting off the ship. So we casted two families of strong swimmers out of Australia and took a family vacation through Belize and Jamaica, showing all the adventure you can find beyond the beach chairs.

There are some cars that will save you money on maintenance, and others that will give you a bow (that you have to return). So unless you really like bows, we think the choice is clear. For this year’s Sign Then Drive Event we showed there’s a smarter choice out there, with lower maintenance costs, and that a Volkswagen is one holiday decision you’ll feel great about – even after the holidays.

If you’re a reigning champion of multiple fantasy sports leagues who depends on his state-of-the-art TV to watch over your fanasty empire. You better have have good internet. Because good things deserve good internet.

We partnered with Paris St. Germain, the International Champions Cup, to show how football, across the U.S. the UK and Australia during the summer pre-season games.

For Airbnb we created a short film, Hollywood & Vines. The film was the first to be directed via Twitter, was shot entirely on Vine and premiered on the Sundance Channel. For four days, people around the world worked with our director to create a single story about travel, adventure and finding your place in the world. This global experiment, featured 100 Viners filming everywhere from Kansas to Kuwait. Directed by Miles Jay

At $26,900 this is the car for Millennials to take their first step into luxury. We wanted to let this generation know they don't have to wait years to get a taste of the good life, they can start enjoying it right now. So go ahead, have a Quarter Life Crisis. Directed by Patrick Daughters.

We built the world’s smartest application, for the world’s smartest company, to answer questions for the world’s smartest customers.

Through yes, direct mail. We turned Google Homes into AI-powered B2B tools for Google Cloud and created a voice assistant app powered by AI and machine learning to give Google Cloud its own voice.

Why? Because Chief Technology Officers don’t always have all the answers about the cloud, they primarily only consider Amazon and Microsoft, and they’re also notoriously dodgy of sales reps.

So we sent 3,750 Google Homes to highly targeted CTOs with instructions to how to ask Google Cloud…about Google Cloud.

We got a 16% response rate. And CTOs spent an average of 8 minutes interacting with Google Cloud.

360 Ambient & Digital Campaign

It’s a Boston tradition to head south to Cape Cod throughout the summer. But traffic makes it a slow moving nightmare. And it’s been that way for well over 50 years. A one hour drive commonly takes 3, 4, 5, 6 or more hours. And in that time, you could have flown to almost anywhere else in the country or Caribbean.

And that’s how JetBlue finally found the solution to Cape traffic – just fly somewhere else faster.

We built a campaign showing people the times it takes to amazing vacation destinations versus the time it takes driving in Cape traffic – in real time using flight and traffic data APIs. We even hired digital adverting trucks to park on the side of the road during traffic and display our message.

And then, days before launch – the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and a Massachusetts State Representative made a few angry calls to the CEO of JetBlue and everything died..besides a part of our digital buy that couldn’t be taken down.

First Liveboard in Times Sq.

We created the first Android-powered Liveboard in Times Square, showing onlookers exactly how close they were to their next vacation. It utilized real-time traffic data from the Google Maps API and real-time flight data to calculate actual travel times right from our billboard. And most importantly? To create awareness, we created Get Away With It, the first-ever online game show. The game show was broadcast live from New York City and where contestants were streamed in via Skype. Our real, live hosts quizzed contestants from around the country with vacation-related questions. And the winning contestants were rewarded with JetBlue Getaways vacation packages.

We partnered with National Geographic to get an aspiring photographer hired for a trip to Sri Lanka with acclaimed big cat photographer Steve Winter. The job was posted to a Snapchat Graduation Story that pushed people to Indeed.com.

When COVID-19 hit, AXE went dark globally on social media like so many other brands. Across the nation we were experiencing empty grocery stores, toilet paper shortages, and a nation-wide quarantine.

Since we had purchased media, we decided to put it to use for good and quickly crafted a global content campaign, that kept true to the AXE tone, and encouraged our teenage guy target to do their part – stay safe, stay inside and that at that very moment, staying home was the most attractive thing you could do.

GoodRx just IPO’d, and was in the midst of beginning to build their brand, redesigning their app, growing an in-house creative team, and needed a stop-gap campaign that bridged their previous retail-driven work and set them up for future campaign development.

We developed a campaign of spots that looked at how GoodRx can help people and professional on both sides of healthcare.

In doing so, we developed a visual identity to translate their app’s UI into an ownable animated style that felt elegant, modern, informative and ownable to the brand.

Loneliness isn’t just a feeling, it’s a serious health risk. For seniors, it can accelerate decline faster than almost anything else. The good news? It’s also one of the easiest things to change. A call. A visit. A small gesture. Tiny acts that make a massive impact. This campaign brings awareness of the crisis, spotlighting the quiet epidemic seniors face, and encourage us to reach out, visit a senior and help fight loneliness.

A custom portrait app that uses AI to transform your image into a branded athenahealth illustration.

What’s the most important part of healthcare’s most connected network? People.

athenahealth wanted to honor their team, and make their employee’s faces the face of the company, so we did just that: created an app that transforms the images of their team members into colorful branded portraits.

We built a Smart Me generating app that uses computer vision, AI and machine learning to transform your image into an athenahealth branded illustration.

We then went one step further and integrated the faces into our State of the Smart campaign to showcase athena’s talent and celebrate their diverse workforce around the globe.

A mobile photo booth was also created to deploy at trade shows.

The world’s smartest people,
are facing the world’s dumbest problems.

Congress passed legislation in 2009 that mandated all US healthcare providers adopt electronic healthcare records by 2015. And the rush to adopt these new technologies created a lot of unintended consequences:

• Software that creates hours of extra digital busywork for doctors.
• Systems that can’t communicate with other systems from from one provider to the next.
• The need to install physical temperature controlled-servers instead of connecting to the cloud.
• Implementation that can take YEARS and cost a hospital network over a BILLION dollars.

Healthcare is too important of an industry for such dumb problems. That’s why athenahealth created the nation’s largest, most connected healthcare network. They’re here reduce all the frustrations, so doctors can focus on the important stuff, like patients.

Turning European NFL fans into American travel enthusiasts.

As the NFL geared up to play five regular season games in London and Frankfurt, it was not just the “other football” that stole the spotlight. We seized this cultural moment as a golden opportunity to introduce the British and Germans to other incredible American experiences beyond American football, encouraging them to Visit the USA.

As part of the campaign, we designed a 9-pack of beer. Each can was created as a travel guide, named, and designed to promote the corresponding destinations of the 9 NFL teams playing in Europe, encouraging drinkers to get a Taste of the States and Visit the USA.

Showcasing Florida’s 15,000 miles of adventurous trails.

Florida is renowned for its sunny coastlines, but SPARK had the challenge of revealing the state’s unexpected experiences. And surprisingly, the Sunshine State offers 18x more miles of trails than beaches. So, we teamed up with the Florida State Park system to create a campaign that showcased the diverse trail and trail town experiences throughout Florida, inspiring travelers to take a vacation and get an adventure.

Growing up in Wisconsin, you really only knew of one football coach – Barry Alvarez. Why would you care about any others? So when US Cellular wanted to launch their Most Valuable Coach program, his story came to mind. He’s won two Rose Bowls with Wisconsin, was part of a National Championship with Notre Dame, he's in the NCAA Hall of Fame, and a Bronze statute of him stands at the entrance of Camp Randall Stadium.

But nearly 40 years ago, he coached a high school team in the small town of Mason City, Iowa. A team that was nowhere on any football map – The Mason City Mohwaks. A team who he led from nowhere to capture the 1977 Division 1 High School Football State Championship. 

He not only inspired his players. He inspired an entire community and truly showed the power a coach.

Gone Google
Small business owners have unique businesses and need a product that can adapt. To build awareness for Google Apps for Small Business we partnered with multiple small businesses, already running Google Apps, and captured their original stories. Showing that Google Small Business Apps can be customized to work for any small business.
 

We inherited an impactful long-running campaign from the Department of Defense. Our job was to show that service in United States military is more than tanks and combat. It’s a possible career, with thousands of exciting job opportunities.

Quite simply, if you have a passion, there’s probably a position in the military that is could be the perfect fit for you. However, it’s often parents that are apprehensive to the idea of their children joining the military.

So we worked with Space Force, the United States Navy Seabees and the Special Warfare community to create three spots that spoke to parents of teens, to show the potential of a military career, and just ask parents, if your child is interested in service – have a listen.

These are the first two.

To show off the new Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, we celebrated human curiosity through a series of Google searches across devices. We linked Google’s past with its Android-powered future and created a film that received over 4.5 million views.

During the COVID-19 crisis, over 75% of Americans have had some aspect of their healthcare disrupted.

Fear of the COVID-19 virus caused thousands to delay their care and leave medical issues to go untreated, even medical emergencies – like heart attacks. Heart attacks!!

Children wellness visits also dropped, which are so vital for assessing growth and development, and staying up to date on vaccinations. Delaying routine care in kids can have especially negative consequences.

So, MullenLowe partnered with an alliance of healthcare organizations like Walgreens, Humana and hospital groups to create a PSA to encourage Americans to keep social distancing, and stop medical distancing.

We created a campaign that is dead simple, memorable and actionable. The design is inspired by the tape markings that were common on retail and grocery store floors across the country. The campaign launched nationally with $35 million in donated media.

Google Apps for Business can work for small businesses all the way up to enterprise companies and we needed to let people know it. We teamed up with a tilt-shift videographer in Singapore to show off all the Google Apps for Business while telling the story of an architect building a skyscraper.

We worked with dutch illustration and animation studio Loulou and Tummie to produce an informational video about Indeed.com directed at business partners.

The video itself is DENSE by creation so we tried to liven it up with humanity and Loulou and Tummie’s whimsical animation style.

Circa 2011 – To show off the latest features of the Galaxy Nexus phone from Google, we embraced Google’s 3D version of its Android character and created animated shorts. At the time Fruit Ninja was a #1 app, panoramic photos were brand new to smartphones and screens had just become high def.

We crafted an interim campaign using library footage to support the brand’s pivot to its More platform, setting an spirited tone for what’s still to come.

The song had been licensed, and the library leaned premium but slower-paced, so we turned up the energy to celebrate all the More NCL delivers.

Everyone loves to eat, but not everyone gets to. When a child in East Africa says they’re starving, they actually mean it. So to fight famine in East Africa, we created the Good Belly Project. It gave foodies a way to help by simply posting pictures of their meals using Instagram. For every picture posted, participating restaurants donated $1 to The Good Belly Project. TED recognized the project as a finalist for the 10 Ads Worth Spreading.
 

Easter Egg
We created this video as an easter egg in our commercial for Indeed and iRobot. The video was hidden as an annotated link at :22 of the original "How Robots Work" commercial on the client's YouTube channel. There's no concept, there are just a lot of videos that involve cats and Roombas, so we wanted to make our as strange as possible for as little budget as possible.

In this ambient concept campaign we tried to make GoodRX’s visual identity the hero and connect visceral “not good” moments to a novel new solution – using GoodRX.

GoodRX’s entire mission is to make healthcare more affordable and convienet. With GoodRX, you can save up to 80% on prescription prices. And if Doctors are too hard to schedule or you just don’t want to drive an hour to refill your prescription for the 40th time, guess what? You can connect with one online. No idea what that test is gonna cost you? It’s right there on GoodRX’s site.

So in a world where things can often feel not good, you can take a deep breath and say to yourself, it’s a good thing there’s GoodRX

Beer Festival Campaign

Meet Jack Sweetwater, beer explorer. You’ve never heard of him? Well, get to Wazoo at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, on of the top-ten beer festivals in the U.S., and you’ll never forget him.

When Burger King partnered with Uber Eats in 2019 it became the first time you could enjoy Burger King delivered to you wherever you where.

You could finally Eats Like a King.

To announce this partnership, we wanted to install drive-through menus, or wall-clings in unique areas across our target regions with offer for free Whoppers.

Activation

In honor of JetBlue’s award-winning service starting daily nonstop flights from New York to London, JetBlue wanted get an award-winning photographer to take passport photos for the inaugural flight.

It turns out, very few people are happy with their passports photos. They’re universally loathed, probably because they’re taken by non-professionals from the post office and drug stores.

So we recruited one of the world’s most award-winning photographers, Annie Leibovitz, to help take a few photos to help fliers book our first London flight with ease.

We almost had this one. Fell through because of a contest.

In 2015, REI owned Black Friday. The #OptOutside campaign made a huge splash when REI announced they were closing their stores and encouraging people to get outside instead.

In 2016, we wanted to hijack Black Friday and encourage people to #OptInside with Netflix. And in the spirit of hijacking we literally took REI’s campaign and just reversed the words. The goal was to get into a battle of words, arguing if it was better to #OptInside or #OptOutside.

Not everybody wants to go hiking or kayaking when they’re together with their families. So this was a great opportunity to steal #OptOutside’s thunder and turn the buzz and momentum in Netflix’s direction by offering the ultimate free Netflix trial this Black Friday.

We wanted to post a special Black Friday username and password that anyone can use to log on to Netflix on November 25 and we’d spread the word about it through PR and social channels, encouraging people to spend Black Friday the way they really want to – with their families and friends, eating pie and watching Netflix.

Netflix was our media client at the time, and we tired like hell to sell this through, but in the end, it didn’t make it.
